Built on a site just yards from the ocean at Cape Cod, ARXX ICFs provide the necessary wind resistance required by local codes. Recently updated codes in Massachusetts require that homes built within 1 mile of the water be able to withstand 110 mph winds. ARXX ICFs ensured that there were no concerns in meeting the new codes. Some of the outstanding architectural features of the project included solar hot water, 'smart home' wiring, decentralized mechanic systems, closed cell stud wall insulation and low maintenance materials. The architect was pleased to find that there were no restraints when using ICFs for his design, no matter how many angles and round rooms that were added to the plans. As an additional complication, the oceanside lot offered accessibility from one side only. In order to access the foundation floor a section of the wall was removed to allow trucks and heavy equipment to spread the stone on the foundation floor. When done we were able to set the wall back into place without losing any time on the ICF build. This was a first-time ICF project for everyone involved; the ICF installer, the architect and the owner. All took the 8 hr comprehensive training class offered by ARXX to ensure this job was a complete success.
