87,000sf middle school. 33% energy savings and improved comfort, despite extensively-glazed design and frigid winter temperatures. ARXX allowed winter construction without additional heaters, as concrete cured while protected by the insulated forms. Interior demising walls and music room met STC50+. Walls up to 44' tall.

Cumberland Regional Health Care

Location: Amherst, Nova Scotia

This $30-million hospital was built to capture Nova Scotia's commitment to patient care and service.  The 78-bed facility was the first large-scale hospital in Atlantic Canada to use ARXX ICFs.  ARXX ICFs were used for the structural exterior walls on a cast-in-place concrete floor topped with a concrete roof.   Some of the reasons ARXX ICF was selected for this project include speed of construction, thermal performance and sound attenuation.

Recently updated codes in Massachusetts require that homes built within 1 mile of the water must be able to withstand 110 mph winds. ARXX ICFs ensured that there were no concerns in meeting the new codes.  This was a first-time ICF project for everyone involved; the ICF installer, the architect and the owner.

 The VISION House Series is comprised of demonstration homes built around the USA that showcase the latest in green design, building techniques and products. The project will incorporate the essentials of sustainable design and construction and will incorporate education and training for building professionals and consumers about green building products and techniques, as well as broader aspects of sustainable living.

The Hood River Middle School welcomed its newest addition, the innovative 5,131sq ft Music and Science building,  the first Energy Trust Path to Net-Zero project in Oregon,  - built using ARXX ICFs. The center boasts a LEED platinum certification, 101% CO2 Emissions Reduction and is the winner of the 2030 “Living Building Challenge” Design Award for AIA Portland 2010, raising the bar for sustainable design.

University of Florida Fort Lauderdale Research and Education Center - Hurricane House

Built to withstand winds of more than 140 miles per hour, the hurricane house at the University of Florida’s Fort Lauderdale Research and Education Center is one of four demonstration facilities located around the state of Florida.  The hurricane house demonstrates that it is possible to build a home that will come through a category 4 or 5 hurricane withstanding winds of more than 150 mph with little or no damage.

A 76,000 square foot facility with requirements that include architectural compatibility with other buildings in the existing complex. This facility was designed to accommodate multiple uses including a forensics training facility. ARXX ICFs were chosen for its ability to reduce air infiltration resulting in improved IAQ ideal in a Biotech facility. This project achieved LEED certification.

Built on the coast of Newport Oregon, these homes have an interesting story.  Originally the owner of these 4 and 6-plex homes decided to build using traditional stick frame construction.  By the time the third model was complete, repairs were already being made to the first.  Being on the coast, the homes built with traditional stick frames were unable to withstand the high winds and required repairs before they were even lived in.

Chidley North Residence Hall

Location: Durham, North Carolina

According to the project architect, ICFs were specified on this project quite simply for stewardship reasons including reducing materials, labor and energy usage. Using ARXX ICFs for the building envelope helped reduce the size of HVAC equipment required.  This move was also encouraged by a recent law in North Carolina which requires all state-funded building designs over 20,000 sq ft. to undergo Life Cycle Cost Analysis. The purpose of the law is to ensure that such buildings exceed ASHRAE 90.1 2004 energy efficiency standards by 20% for buildings constructed through calendar year 2010, and 30% through calendar year 2015.  When completed, this project will also be LEED Silver certified.

Holtkamp Residence

The Holtkamps have joined thousands of other Georgia homeowners in building an elegant new house constructed with 21st century energy-saving technology. Federal tax credits helped offset the additional costs.
       
The 7,500 square foot Greek revival house, built in 2006, appears to have stood on its 5.2 acres since Civil War days. It could almost pass for one of the historical homes on Madison's antebellum trail.  "I wanted an old house, but they are inefficient," Suzanne Holtkamp said. "We wanted to build a home that will last through the ages to counteract the current disposable building culture."
